Winter Survival Kit - Thank You Letter

11/13/2009

It’s Friday evening and I’m sipping hot chocolate from a fun giant mug and wearing new socks in toasty slippers. My entire dining room table is covered in gifts. I had Fancy Friday, personal introductions from all staff at the last zone meeting, and now this??? I’m definitely feeling well-loved and extremely spoiled.

The winter driving tips article recommended a full gas tank, and voila! – a Casey’s card was attached! Lots of items were recommended (many I had never thought about) and provided for me by my Prairie Lakes friends in a handy carrying case: a snow shovel (in bright orange so I can wave it in the air, too), a bright red help flag (complete with Boardmaker icon), sand (which I learned how to use), delicious high-protein snacks, matches and candles, a blanket (too cute to put in my truck), windshield scrapers (even a fancy one on a mitt), and jumper cables (with personalized “damage”). I don’t want to live in my truck, but now I can!

Some items were awesome because of their necessity or Iowan-ness: traction footgear, windshield de-icer, lock de-icer, Carmex, Iowa Gold, wool clothing, a soft, fuzzy scarf and gloves, two beautifully hand-made scarves, and snowflake socks.

Other items were special because they showed how well you know me personally already: a journal, a handwritten poem, a certain beverage, cookie cutters, and things to bake.

I laughed about some gifts but will be secretly using them soon: hand, foot, and body warmers, games and a puzzle, a blaze orange face mask, and the Red Riding hood robe.

Thank you especially for the cards, notes, kind words, cute wrapping, and laughs. Let’s not forget the pièce de résistance, an ear of corn with my name in it. I am honestly SO HAPPY with my new job and new home.

Rachel
